Norwegian Geotechnical Institute 

NGI coordinates the MINEYE project.

The Norwegian Geotechnical Institute (NGI) has been a leading international centre for research and consulting within the engineering-related geosciences since 1953. Luleå University of Technology

In MINEYE, LTU provides expertise related to mineral exploration and database management. Integration of various data for mineral exploration will be in focus in MINEYE, with development of methods for mineral targeting and prospectivity mapping.

Luleå University of Technology (LTU) was established in 1971 and has since it start had research and education focussing on mineral resources and technical developments related to the exploration and mining industry. University of Bologna

UNIBO will collaborate to collect and process the Earth Observation (EO) data and will develop methods in various tasks. UNIBO is leading WP4 on tailing environmental footprints and secondary raw materials re-mining. UNIBO will also work on geological modelling, using multisource data (geochemical, geological and environmental metal, satellite images, etc.) and characterization of minerals using geostatistics and machine learning algorithms.

The DICAM department, established in 2012, integrates the Civil, Chemical, Environmental and Materials Engineering disciplines within the University of Bologna (UNIBO). The research group of Mining Engineering and Geostatistics works on the characterization and modelling of mineral raw material resources, using direct (e.g. boreholes) and indirect (e.g. satellite images, geophysical surveys) information. Terranigma

Terranigma Solutions GmbH’s involvement in the MINEYE project primarily includes leading the integration of remote sensing data into geological modeling using probabilistic methods and machine learning algorithms. These developments will be made using Python and will be available under an open-source license. Additionally, Terranigma is set to create a connection between the IPOP (Interfacing Programming and Optimization Platform) and its commercial 3D visualization application through a dedicated plugin

Czech Geological Survey

In the Mineye project, CGS plays a critical role in employing Earth Observation (EO) data and methods in various tasks. By acquiring and processing high-spatial and spectral resolution data, including hyperspectral images, the CGS team supports the creation of detailed environmental impact maps and prepares ready-to-use data and information customized for specific demonstration sites. Collaborating closely with the Mineye partners, CGS develops validated EO indicators to assess the overall health of soil, water, and air environments surrounding mining sites. CGS also leads the WP5 „Data fusion and model validation for the mine value chain”, that leverages advanced technologies such as machine learning (ML) and geostatistical algorithms to integrate diverse data sources, providing comprehensive and accurate assessments.

INNSIGHT

In MINEYE project, INNSIGHT Srl takes on the critical role of leading Work Package 6 (WP6), which focuses on Sustainability Impact Analysis and Strategic Roadmap for Implementation. INNSIGHT’s primary responsibilities involve conducting comprehensive Life Cycle Assessments (LCA) to evaluate the environmental benefits of MINEYE technologies compared to conventional mining methods. Furthermore, INNSIGHT assesses the social responsibility aspects of MINEYE technologies by evaluating improvements in occupational health and safety, community engagement, and fair labor practices. This social impact assessment is guided by the IRMA Standard for Responsible Mining and involves close interaction with local communities. In addition to environmental and social evaluations, INNSIGHT analyzes how MINEYE solutions impact business model integrity, focusing on community engagement, human rights, and due diligence. By using the Quality Function Deployment (QFD) framework, INNSIGHT integrates these assessments to visualize and identify key sustainability levers, ensuring that the project’s outputs align with the highest standards of social responsibility and business ethics.

SPACEBEL brings their expertise related to Earth observation applications and Space data management to the MINEYE project covering the following activities: (i) EO database preparation, (ii) environmental footprint monitoring to detect possible pollution, (iii) ground surface monitoring to assess the mine stability, and (iv) integration of various products and monitoring solutions into a comprehensive platform adapted to optimise mining operations and assist decision making.

Tharsis Mining

Tharsis Mining is contributing its extensive expertise in mining sites to the MINEYE project, providing access to mining sites for testing and experimentation, and working with other project partners to develop and implement innovative technologies and practices for mining and mineral exploration. The analysis of ground samples and mine waste dumps provides valuable insights into the challenges and opportunities within the mining industry and helps to align the project’s outcomes with the needs and priorities of the industry, to complete the spectral, chemical, mineralogical and petrophysical characterisation of rock, soil or stream sediment samples.

Tre Altamira

TREA leads tasks dedicated to SAR data processing to provide ground deformation measurements over mining assets and the surrounding areas. Processed SAR data will be integrated into MINEYE’s digital platforms. TREA will also assist in the evaluation of European Ground Motion Service results over selected sites.

With over 20 years of experience, TRE ALTAMIRA (TREA) is the world leader in ground motion monitoring services using satellite radar (Synthetic Aperture Radar – SAR) data. TREA benefits from the expertise of +100 multilingual employees working in more than 10 countries. It provides displacement measurements with millimetric precision for the mining industry and several other sectors. TREA’s technology is completely remote and can be easily integrated into operational plans, complementing in-situ instrumentation information. In the MINEYE project Planet is testing imagery from the Planet Scope constellation and the upcoming hyperspectral mission (Tanager) for detecting minerals and assessing the environmental impact of mining activities

Spectral Industries

Spectral is developing a mobile LIBS sensor for chemical analysis of exploration and mining materials at the demonstration sites in Spain and Albania. Furthermore, Spectral will utilize a LIBS drill core analyser to measure drill cores from the aforementioned sites. The chemical data collected will enrich existing Earth observation data and models within the project.

Spectral Industries is a technology provider and developer of LIBS (Laser Induced Breakdown Spectroscopy) sensors. Spectral offers real-time, non-contact material characterization solutions without the need for sample preparation. SO.RI.CO.M.

SO.RI.CO.M. contributes to the MINEYE project by allowing research activities in the mining sites in Albania where it extracts and markets Chromite.

Since 1958, the company’s foundation year, SO.RI.CO.M. SRL deals with the study, research, enhancement and exploitation of minerals, rocks and subsoil resources in Italy and recently abroad. In Italy, SO.RI.CO.M. deals with fluorite extraction while abroad researching and extracting chromite. In the project we need to focus in our Albanian’mines when we extracts chromite.
