MINEYE showcases advances in hyperspectral data enhancement at IGARSS 2026

Our project was recently represented at the 2026 IEEE International Geoscience and Remote Sensing Symposium (IGARSS) in Washington, D.C., where PLANET, a MINEYE project partner, presented the project’s latest research on enhancing hyperspectral data for the mining sector.

During the presentation, PLANET showcased its latest work combining 30 m Tanager hyperspectral data with higher-resolution PlanetScope imagery through a novel dual-branch U-Net deep learning pipeline.

The approach achieved a 3× spatial enhancement, validated using real-world data from mining-related locations around the globe. This work demonstrates the potential of combining hyperspectral information with high-resolution optical imagery to deliver more detailed and actionable insights for the mining sector.

The research was presented in the session “Image Analysis and Data Fusion: The AI Era” at IGARSS 2026, highlighting the growing role of AI and advanced data fusion techniques in Earth observation.

This achievement marks another important step towards MINEYE’s goal of supporting more efficient, sustainable and data-driven mineral exploration and mining.
