MINEYE research presented at EGU 2026

On 3–8 May 2026, Vienna hosted the annual EGU conference. Martin Kýhos from the Czech Geological Survey (CGS), one of the MINEYE partners, presented results on water quality in the Iberian Pyrite Belt based on data collected during fieldwork in October 2025 in cooperation with Tharsis Mining. His poster was entitled: “A Lightweight UAV-based Spectroscopic System for Water Quality Monitoring in Mining-Impacted Environments: Setup, Data Processing, and Validation.”

The poster session showcased innovative approaches to environmental monitoring, detailing the use of an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) equipped with a miniature spectrometer (40x42x24 mm; 337–823 nm; 1.2 nm spectral resolution; 1024 bands). The presentation covered the entire workflow: from the technical setup of the drone to data processing and validation. This demonstrates how low-cost, modern technologies can effectively assess water quality in areas affected by mining activities.

This prestigious conference brings together experts from all fields of geosciences, with the total number of registered attendees reaching an impressive 22,497.
