New research reinforces the role of coordinated Earth Observation for mining monitoring

A recent study published in Earth and Space Science highlights the importance of improving coordination between current and future Earth Observation (EO) missions to enhance the availability and reliability of satellite-based monitoring data.

The paper, “Observation and Coordination Needs for Current, Near-Future, and Next Generation Earth-Observing SAR Systems”, emphasises the value of Synthetic Aperture Radar (SAR) technologies for monitoring changes at the Earth’s surface, including ground deformation and environmental processes.

These findings are highly relevant for the MINEYE project, which explores the use of advanced Earth Observation techniques to support safer and more sustainable mining operations. Consistent and coordinated SAR observations can provide valuable information for monitoring mining-related changes, assessing potential risks, and improving transparency around mining activities.

By strengthening collaboration between EO missions and improving data continuity, the research supports the development of more effective satellite-based solutions for environmental monitoring and responsible resource management.
